apart from Python if I want to mess around with the Rasberry Pi
I would encourage you to check out Rasberry PI. There are a lot of possibilities that can be done (Internet of things).

I deployed an application I created last December. We (my brother and I) are now talking to a delivery/logistics company. We are offering a 25 dollar (raspberry base device) that they can use to track down parcels. That little device has a gps installed and can talk to the application I deployed where clients, by entering the tracking number can trackdown their parcels, whether it is still in the warehouse or on the road.

I'm sure you'll have fun with rasberry as we did.

    Nice one, well done.
As soon as I finish my current project I think I will buy one and try to program something with my kids as I really thing that this is super cool.
2 things that are worth understanding for the coming technological wave of new internet of things is the Rasberry PI and Augmented reality, both are going to make a huge impact in the market.

So many thing I wish to do but struggle with time...........when you have kids it is tough to stay a whole week end online to learn new things after a week of work :-(
