This is much too broad a question for this forum. Google is your friend!

This is the JavaScript forum. Java and Javascript are entirely different programming languages, in spite of the confusingly similar names. Rather like Austria and Australia!

All advice is supplied packaged by intellectual weight, and not by volume. Contents may settle slightly in transit.

All the code given in this post has been tested and is intended to address the question asked.
Unless stated otherwise it is not just a demonstration.

Javascript is a browser supported language.
That means programs you write will be interpreted by the browser, whatever machine the browser is on.
The great thing about that is you don't need to write different code for PC, iPad, Android etc. The browsers that run on those hardwares do have machine dependencies, but that does not affect the Javascript programmer who uses the same code for all devices.
In a Nutshell the browser uses a standard HTML/Javascript language, and all browsers attempt to use the same interpretation of the language.

Some of the older browsers weren't as standard, so this can be a problem is an old computer has an outdated version of Internet Explorer, for example. But for the most part it is standardised now.

The latest version of HTML5 allows even more graphical functions to be coded in Javascript, making FLASH code unnecessary.

Because the javascript runs on the host computer (and not the server), responses to user input can be fast and interactive, with only things like Database queries being sent back upto the server.

JavaScript can run in lots of different places - on the desktop, on the server, in the browser and many more. There are few other programming languages that can be run in as many different environments as JavaScript can.

Don't forget to start your JavaScript code with "use strict"; which makes it easier to find errors in your code.
