    New to Java

Hi everyone. I am new to Java and not even sure it can accomplish what I am trying to do. I have been asked to try to come up with a web based program that will create numbers in a sequential order....IE: 001, 002, 003.....upon every press of a button. I need these numbers to be able to be stored so that the next time someone else loads this up and presses the button, it will produce the next number in the sequence. It also has to work across many workstations and users. Is this even possible? Or should I look at another option? I thought Java might be the best option, seeing how easy it is to implement into HTML. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, to add, I have made something similar in the past using Flash and AS3. I used it in a game that I made. There are two issues with what I created then. 1: We don't have flash installed on our desktops at work and 2: it started over each time the application was loaded.

There is JavaScript and there is Java, both programming languages can do what you want. Both need to store the out come in a DataBase. Which language are you talking about. You post in the JavaScript section but talk about Java....

JavaScript can not connect to a DataBase directly, it needs a go between, on the other hand Java can. But in both cases this has to be run on a server that can host a DataBase.

This is the JavaScript forum. Java and Javascript are entirely different programming languages, in spite of the confusingly similar names. Rather like Austria and Australia! Ask a mod to move this thread to the right forum.

All the code given in this post has been tested and is intended to address the question asked.
Unless stated otherwise it is not just a demonstration.
