What would be the best logical move now?

    Hey guys,
Before I start bothering you with my questions, please let me introduce myself. My name is Stephan, I am 19 years old and live in the Netherlands. Since I was a child I've always been facinated by websites and games, but never did anything but using/playing them, untill now!

Just recently, pretty much out of being bored I started my journey in the world of coding and did a simple JavaScript course. I mastered the basics and while I was doing this an idea popped in my head for a game which I feel have been missing all these years I've been playing games, this pulled me towards HTML/CSS as I need these two languages in my skillset to build the very basic foundation of the game.

Now my plan in the beginning was to go on with PHP when I mastered HTML/CSS. But the more I inspect elements of simular scripts as my game is going to need, the more I find JavaScript in places I expected to be PHP. Now as far as I know at this given time I thought PHP was needed to be able to communicate with my MySQL server. And when I do research about JavaScript communicating with MySQL there seem to be alot of ways around it.

Now I wonder, is PHP actually the right place to go from here? Or is JavaScript really that much better when you make it correspond with MySQL through certain bypasses?

Everything below is just information about what I want to be able to do:
    - I want to have a database to store values in.
    - All features pretty much are small scripts in which calculations are done based on values stored in my database.
    - The game is pretty much "text-based" excluding a few small JavaScript mini-games.

If there is any more information needed to be able to provide me with an accurate answer, please ask.

Hopefully I won't come across as a fool because of my lack of knowledge as I really am willing to learn. But the moment I type in certain things like these I end up on websites with people who already mastered all this and expect me as a noobie to understand all their flashy words. Thus leading me to only more confusion and less certainty about the decisions I make.

    Friendly Greetings,

JavaScript is the only language that runs inside the web browser so you need to use it there for the immediate interactivity without constant page reloads.

There are a choice of languages on the server depending on which ones that the particular web hosting you get provides. The most common JavaScript implementation on the server is called Node. You are more likely to find PHP available on web hosting that Node.

Don't forget to start your JavaScript code with "use strict"; which makes it easier to find errors in your code.
