    Issues logging into forum?

Is anybody else having issues logging into the forum?

Despite having the "Remember me" checkbox clicked, it doesn't seem to remember me. When I log in, it gives me a redirect error, but then I can click buttons and it seems to work like normal, but if I open a new browser window, it doesn't know who I am anymore.

It's been this way for a couple months, it was working fine (remembering me) for years before this

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

I have noticed a difference, too, but I thought it might have been one of my weird cookie settings, I didn’t think the forum would be the culprit. For what it’s worth, I noticed that it shows me as logged out but I am actually still logged in; if I click the “New Posts” link it’ll bring me to the respective list and shows me as logged in again, and everything is normal. It might be related to some security updates to the server.

I keep getting "gateway error" after which I'm disconnected, but ONLY when I'm not logged into a VPN. I know my local ISP is total ****e which is why I switched to using a VPN in the first place, but still...

Which is really strange, usually it's the other way around with many larger VPN addresses being blocked at places.

    Hi Daniel,

Is it possible that you have bookmarked a CF page that is not using SSL (i.e., HTTP instead of HTTPS)?

If you are logged in and browsing the forum via HTTPS, close the browser/tab, and then return to CF via HTTP, then it will not "remember" who you are. I assume this is because HTTP and HTTPS versions of the site are treated as different domains and subsequently session data is not shared between them.

Can you confirm that this is the issue you are experiencing?

If not, can you please provide me with the exact steps taken so that I can reproduce the issue here?

In any case, I'm confident that we can address the issue.

    Thank you.
    Regards, R.J.

The security update reinforced external redirection, not internal redirection.

Internal redirection seems to be the issue here.

CF is using Cloudflare as a CDN/HTTP Proxy.

I have enabled automatic HTTP-to-HTTPS redirection via Cloudflare.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue (or creates new issues).

    Thanks!

I noticed this morning when I brought up the site, it had me logged in. After reading your explanation, i checked my bookmark and sure enough, it was http only.

Things seem to be working as before now!

    Thanks!

I am getting some problems with the simple things this site has never had a problem with forever.
Last night I had to log in every time I entered a section. Some knew me some did not and wouldn't let me post. Today trying to edit a post and nothing shows up. Hit back key, copied post and went forword - refreshed age - still no post so pasted and hit Post Quick Reply. Now there are two posts. Both the edited version. Tried to delete one, but it did not take to the Edit Post page.

I can confirm this. It would show me logged in when accessing forums via the home page but when clicking the “New Posts” link I would suddenly be logged out. I seemed to be able to fix this by locking cookies with my cookie manager browser extension.
It might be related to the domain with or without www subdomain but I’m not entirely certain.

    Hi guys,

I have been working with CF's hosting company for a couple of days now, trying to get this issue resolved.

At first, I thought HTTPS redirection solved the problem, but clearly that is not the case.

Session cookies don't seem to be working correctly, as indicated in the attached screenshot.

This behavior seems to be causing random logins and logouts.

I don't think that navigating between the main domain and www subdomain is causing the issue, because the cookies are set for the ".codingforums.com" domain -- meaning they should be accessible to both the primary domain as well as all subdomains.

But then there's this. So maybe HTTP headers are set incorrectly, and there is some invisible redirection between the main domain and www subdomain?? I don't see any visible redirections in Google Chrome's "Network" tab (in the browser dev tools).

Anyway, the hosting company's vBulletin developer is working on the issue, and hopefully it will be resolved sooner rather than later.

    Thanks for your patience!

Edit: I did try disabling the HTTPS redirection enforced by Cloudflare, and that did not seem to help. I also tried disabling Cloudflare's CDN/HTTP Proxy, and I had similar results.
