    Minor request, date formatting

Could you change the date format on posts from "j-n-Y" to "j F Y" or even "j M Y"? That way instead of 6-2-2018 it would be "6 February 2018" or "6 Feb 2018"?

It gets confusing for us yanks who are used to seeing date SECOND not first as to just which month some posts are in. Using the month name avoids this ambiguity. There's a reason most militaries use the format I'm suggesting. With the international inconsistency of date formatting it's really a bad idea to be using the month number.

I just butted heads with this almost bumping three older threads -- and saw two recent thread necromancies that happened for just this reason.

I believe this is as simple as editing one configuration field somewhere in vBull. I THOUGHT it was configurable as a per-user preference but I can't seem to find that anywhere. I know it is user changeable in SMF and myBB, odd to not see this option in so highly touted (and overpriced/outdated) a forum software...

I just looked into it and there seems to be no default functionality for users to set their own date/time preference in vBulletin. However, the current date setting is “m-d-Y”, and I see month-day-year with leading zeros each, so I can’t imagine that it should look different for you yank (especially since the forum was and is run by a USA based owner).

I agree with you, however, that this is ambiguous, especially since there is an international audience here on CF, so I’m gonna change it to something less ambiguous.

Ok, only one problem with the 'longer' date format using "1st" and the full month name. TIMES are getting cut off on search results pages. PROBABLY because whoever made the forum skin did something stupid like table-layout:fixed.

Hence why I suggested "j M Y" with no punctuation.

I see. The “j M Y” format won’t get rid of the problem of cut-off time, though, because it’ll still be too long in the minimum width of the container. I’m gonna have to change the style to make the thread list actually work like a table (and also get rid of the fixed heights that unnecessarily cut off the thread titles).

Uhm.. it should.. since it looks to only need around two more characters to fit.

Right now it's cut off as:
    June 21st, 2018 05:

When no "st" and no comma and 3 letter month name
    21 Jun 2018 05:21

Boom, 4 characters freed when we only really needed two or three.

For the record, I see the date and time just fine.
To save time, lets just assume I am almost never wrong.

That depends on the width of the viewport. The forum container has a minimum width, and if that is reached, the year number is already cut off at the end, so there is no way to see the complete time in any configuration. Perhaps it would work for your personal viewport size preference but it wouldn’t for other people.

In other words it should either have a min-width, or be allowed to word-wrap. Gotcha.

I hate it when things are set to 'hidden' instead of letting them wrap.
