    Actionscript STILL being used?

While looking to post another question... I noticed this sub forum!!

I used to LOVE actionscript. 🙂
I could make mini apps on the fly.
Move objects around and have a good balance of graphical vs raw coding.

What can I use Actionscript for?

    Just curious.

The use of Flash -- and by extension ActionScript -- has all but disappeared in the web development industry. Because it requries a plugin for browser use or the runtime DL for native, it has pretty much gone the way of the dodo out of misuse, distrust, and even some browser makers actively trying to kill it.

BUT, it lives on in another role. Game development. NOT for actually writing the games themselves, but through Scaleform, which uses Flash -- and by extension ActionScript -- to create the various menus in games. If you've ever played games seen that "Autodesk Scaleform" logo go by? That means the main menu, inventory menus, and so forth were actually built using Flash.
