View Full Version : Trying to create an online school...

I run an online organization and for some time we've played around with the idea of an online school. Problem is anything beyond html (and some dhtml) I'm completly out of my league. Even going to htmlgoodies.com is making me feel dumb. I know creating a database through PHP should give me what I want, I don't know what to do.

I want something set up that someone can register to the school and get automatic acceptance to (perferably with the option to not make it automatic), a student can log in and if they have completed an assignment, it will automatically record it on a virtual "report card". I am considering a message board for the students, but that is not necessary.

I'm just really frusterated, knowing that this should be a simple task, but I can't wrap my mind around it.

If anyone has any suggestions for a website that can give me some tips or flat out teach me, or a website that has a premade code that I can just put on my server, I would really appreciate it.

I know I must sound like a moron to some, I just can't understand it.

Thank you for reading my post.

I really must say this isn't going to be a simple task if you've never done php before. Your best bet would be paying someone to do this, or taking some time and learn php and mysql.

Online, i'd say google up php and mysql tutorials

Pick up a book if you can, it'll help you get started on things. The more you do, the better you're going to get.

I hope this helps.

Good luck;

Thanks for the suggestion. It's looking that way for me. I did find moodles.com which has a set up for an online school, but there is still some setting up to do on my own (like a database for instance). If I can't get beyond that, I may come back for more help. After reading some books and tutorials of course.

Thank you again.
