View Full Version : HTTP response code for redirecting from tracking URL

I am trying to strip out tracking query strings from a URL but don't know what kind of response code I should issue when the redirect is done back to the same page minus the tracking code. Should it be a 301 permanent redirect response or something else?

Also, would this have any impact on the ranking given by search engines if each time they reach a page they are redirected immediately back to that page minus the tracking code?

Yes, I understand how to do redirects, but I don't know if the 301 response code is appropriate for what I specifically want to do.
