View Full Version : how to create an xml control in visual studio

Apr 26th, 2006, 04:04 PM
I am doing some tutorials and it says "Drag an Xml control from the tool box onto the form". I looked at the tool box in the 'web forms' tab section and also other sections but I can find this control (xml control). I see all the other things like a label control, button control, image etc.

So where it is hiding?

I also checked on the msdn web site and they say "From the Standard tab of the Toolbox, drag an Xml control onto the page." But it is not found in my tool box of my visual studio.

Some one help please

You might have to use the scrollbar (or possibly a down arrow at the bottom of the Toolbox window) to find it in the list, but it's there. Just look a little harder. ;)

Can you please let me know under which tab it is found? I still cant find it.

Is it under Data, Web Forms, Components, HTML, Clipboard Ring, General?

You don't say whether you're using Visual Studio 2003 or Visual Studio 2005, but the Toolbox for both is very similar. VS2005 has a scrollbar that you can pull down to see all the controls in the Toolbox. It also has collapsible sections for its Toolbox (+ denotes a collapsed section, - denotes an expanded section). VS2003 has a down arrow on the bottom right side of the Toolbox. Click on that down arrow to see all the Toolbox controls.

The XML control is under the Web Forms section of the Toolbox, for both VS2003 and VS2005. Use either that down arrow (in VS2003) or the scrollbar (in VS2005) to see all the controls in the Toolbox.

If you still need some help, I'll capture some screen shots and show you what I'm talking about.
