What does this mean?

Alexa Trend/Rank: (The up arrow here) The lower the rank the better. 2,856,558 (1 Month) 5,178,935 (3 Month)

It means your traffic is increasing, from being rated 5,178,935th 3 months ago to be rated 2,856,558th now.
Traffic ratings are based on people with the alexa toolbar, they rank all websites that they visit in terms of traffic.

They are ofcourse a load of rubish statistically speaking.
Just to give you an example, two of my sites are rated on Alexa.
One is rated with a rank of 2,092,007 - it gets approx 300 hits per month, alexa says that I have dropped 1,001,826 places in the last 3 months, 3 months ago I was getting 600 visits per month, putting me at 1,090,181 3 months ago. With 600 hits per month thats rediculous - now it could be that 3 months ago they had very few sites in their list and thats how a personal portfolio site could be nearly in the top million but that doesnt match up with my other site which gets 6k visits now and 3 months ago got 8k which according to alexas traffic rankings puts it lower down in the rankings than my 600 visits per month site.

The Alexa ranks are based on visits from people with the Alexa toolbar installed. This is considered to be spyware and so anyone with decent security wont have it.

The accuracy of the rankings goes down for less popular sites. It is reasonably accurate within the top 100 and accurate to within a few hundred places places within the top 10,000. Probably only accurate to the few thousand after that and meaningless outside of the top 100,000.

The lower the alexa ranking means the more heavily visited site. Only a few people use it and the rankings can be manipulated as any site owner can install the toolbar and surf his own site often to enhance his Alexa ranking.
