View Full Version : Servers?

hi, I have a website (www.mindelude.com), and on mindelude, I upload videos, sounds, images, and text stories. BUT what I do is, I go to other sites, and get their URL and use it on my site. What usually happens is, the URL of the video closes, or changes, I have to delete and get it all over. Is there away I can just UPLOAD all the files into my server? Wouldn't I be out of web space? (I use JaguarPC)

You should consider copyright issues... one thing I recommend is making sure you have the rights to the content before uploading them on a server (you can rent one cheap)

Sorry, I've never tried renting "servers".

If I DO rent a server, what can I do with it? What do I basically do with it? Store files? Can't I do that with my hosting?

what IS a server?

What you seem to be doing is a form of hot linking to other people's material on their web space/server, which is frowned upon and may constitute copyright infringement.

If you want to show material, upload it onto your own web space/server (the place where your site resides), but before you do that you should make sure you have the permission of the original material's owner.

If you already use managed hosting to host your site, then no, you won't need a separate server to store the material on; it can be stored where your site is, and yes, this will eat into your available space.
