View Full Version : special characters

Hi all,

A question, I'm currently updating websites for clients. They send me new texts in word files for me to implement. I copy/paste them in Dreamweaver.

My problem is tha special characters like '' etc aren't displayed properly. I know how to fix this. In Dreamweaver you can insert a html > special character.
I takes me a ****load of time to do this in all the pages. I use 'search' and then 'change all'. It's easy to make errors this way, or to forget one or two. I am wondering if there is an easier way to do so. For instance a conversion to html in word or something?

Any suggestions?

thanks in advance!

a conversion to html in word... You could do that, but you'll probably be spending more time cleaning up the junk that Word spits out; then again, you might be able to clean that up with HTML Tidy (http://tidy.sourceforge.net/).

I did a Google for "convert special characters to html entities (http://www.google.com/search?ie=ISO-8859-1&oe=ISO-8859-1&q=convert+special+characters+to+html+entities&btnG=Google+Search)"; this shows a couple of different programmatic solutions in Javascript, Java, etc. Most server side scripting languages have functions for this, but of course I don't know if that is an option for you.
