I want to make my own php web service. I am experienced in advanced programming in C++ and C++.net, but don't know too much about php programming. My webhost has decided to disallow perl or cgi of any kind because certain users were taking advantage of it and creating cgi for the use of DOS attacks, which of any of you are educated in that feild of computers know that it can be quite annoying when you're trying to set up a nice, good, well-working webhost server.

So I am thinking that I'm going to turn to php to make my web service, not that I really knew perl anyway. lol.

I was hoping that somebody could point me in the direction of a php tutorial that is simple and easy to understand (as far as programming goes/compared to other tutorials) that will explain databases, accessing databases, manipulating variables, etc.... esp. regarding mail and the basic format of php.

Thank you.

P.S. I will not use a mail client that is already out on the web, but I will examine and try to interperet them.

http://uk2.php.net/tut.php should get you started with some php basics (as well as the complete php manual).
Also http://www.w3schools.com/php/default.asp

There are a WHOLE lot of tutorials for PHP on the net. Just search Google or Yahoo and I'm sure you'll find something of use. Those links above are also good.

I started out with a book by Larry Ullman--PHP and MySQL for Dynamic Websites--a very good book if you're just starting out. It goes into depth explaining just about everything. Of course, then there's more advanced stuff not covered in there, but that's what the net's for! :D
