View Full Version : Is it time to move to ASP.NET?

I am guessing everyone on this board will reply with a resounding "Yes", but what I am really looking for is - "What are the advantages of moving from coding in ASP to learning ASP.NET?" and "What kind of learning commitment am I looking at when I decide to make the leap to ASP.NET?"

Thanks in advance for your comments.

You won't regret the time invested. The hardest part will be the temptation to do it the "ASP way" instead of using the ASP.NET classes, especially for ad hoc SQL commands (use Command, DataReaders, Parameters), etc.

If you do it the ASP.NET way, you will have more secure and robust database interacation.

Automatic postback processing makes managing state between page requests a breeze.

Learn User Controls (similar in concept to an encapsulted "include" file) and you will use them everywhere.

After may years of classic ASP, and now ASP.NET, I consider the maintenance I have to do on ASP apps to be a nuisance and don't look forward to it.
