I don't really know how to ask for what kind of program that does this...

But let's say I have 3 program's installed for playing MP3's & MPG's, I open one of those programs, it then automaticly makes it the default program for playing those files with out asking me for permission...

Are there any free programs that will ask me if I want to allow or deny these changes?

I know not of such a program, but usually the programs that change file extension associations will have a preferences page that will allow you to turn off those associations. Otherwise, you may be stuck with having to change them yourself manually in the Folder Options. I would bet that a registry key watching program would probably do the trick though since thats where all file type associations are held.

Just right click, and select Open With, and in the dialog box, click always open this using this, something along those lines you should see then click OK

Thanks for trying to help :)

So far, I found that quicktime and iTunes can play most media files.
And there are setting in real player to turn that default player garbage off.

So now, my computer doesn't have so much of a mind of it's own :P
