I would like to add Flash to my psd file. I tried to open the psd file in Macromedia Flash by selecting the All Files option but this does not work. Can someone tell me what I need to do to add Flash to my psd file?

hang on, you want to add Flash to Photoshop, but you try to open a Photoshop document in Flash? what effect are you trying to achieve?

I should clarify myself. I would import flash into a page I created in photoshop. Do I need to save my photoshop file with a different file extension other than .psd?

I don't think it's possible to import flash into photoshop...

Hmm, if you have Macromedia Fireworks you might be able to slice the file in there and import the already made flash file.

ok and what is this file for? a presentation? website? if its for a webpage you'll have to slice your PSD file, save it all to jpg and then insert the flash file where needed in HTML.

Yes. This file is for a website. Whackaxe, you mentioned that I would have to "slice" my PSD file. What is the purpose of slicing it and how do I slice it? Another question I have is after I save it as a jpg do I have to open flash and then import the jpg file I created to add animation to the file? Does that make sense what I'm asking?

it depends on how you want to make your website. if you want to have your site contained in a flash file (something i strongly recommend against) then you can import a JPG version of the PSD and wrk with that. but if you want to write your ite using HTML and images, then at some point you will need to insert the flash file inbetween the other image pieces, thats what the point of slicing is

I want the file I created in photoshop to be seen on the web as an html file. I have Dreamweaver installed on my pc but, I have never used it. Do you know of any sites that have instructions on how to 'convert' the file I created in photoshop to an html file using Dreamweaver?

You can use photoshop to export the html and images for you but the html is almost always never 'good' html.
File>Save for Web>Save button but saving the psd file as a jpg or some other image format and then importing it into flash, and setting it as a background image then export the flash file and then use html to put the flash on the page.

For future reference you can export the .psd to imageready then from imageready click on file = export = macromedia flash swf and thats it.

lemme guess what you want to do ...

make a photoshop image .. n then .. slice the pages .. and publish as html ?
if so .. just use that slice as your flash background n work on it .. atleast thats how i do ... n works very very good

use dreamweaver or sum otha soft to replace that slice alone .. with that swf

and the advantge of slicing is dat .. u can reduce the image size .. afterall .. who would like to wait until one big jpg of size say .. 700x700 loads ... so u slice up the images into smaller parts ... n then publish .. sothat the smaller images ( the slices ) load faster ..

I do believe in photoshop cs2 you are able to import flash...however for what you want to do it would be better to create your .psd. Slice the section where the .swf would be located using the slice tool and replace that static portion with the .swf file as stated in the other replies.

Ralph you’re right, I am using CS2. I forgot the older versions of Photoshop doesn’t have the option to export directly into flash. I usually just import the sliced image that I am going to use as a .swf into flash.
