View Full Version : Would like honest opinions and advice on my new site design.

CodingForum Members----

I am currently in the process of redesigning my business website and I would really appreciate everyone's opinions/advice on the following:

1.) The overall layout
2.) The main menu at the top (I have made the code for the image mouseovers in FrontPage, but I'm not very happy with the results)
3.) The colors (i.e., do they look washed out on your monitor?)
4.) Functionality

So far I have the following pages up and running:

Main Page - About Page - Services Page - Samples Page - Contact Page

I know I should have the whole thing finished before I came here and asked this, but I am in the middle of several other projects and over the weekend my server lost all the original graphics to my old design (you'll notice some pages have no graphics at all).

If anyone has any information on using a better code for the main menu I would appreciate it. I have been searching the Web for a code to use to swap the images, but so far I haven't found anything that satisfies me.

I appreciate any advice/suggestions/critics, and thank you to all.

The address to my website is: http://www.cloud-9.org

Thats a killer site there buddy... You need a link back to the main page, and the "Shop Talk" page is kinda messed up.

But those are minor things that can be fixed easy, but overall that site is awesome.

Well done.

Wizzard, thank you for the compliments. It's makes the last twenty four hours of caffeine-frenzied programming well worth it :)

Yes, like I said, only the following pages are complete: Main Page - About Page - Services Page - Samples Page - Contact Page.

My server had some kind of major malfunction over the weekend and when I went to my site all the graphics were gone. I was like screaming and pulling my hair out.....lol.

Thankfully, I had a new design in the works, but I was not ready to put it up now. Well, time for a new plan. I'm working on getting all the other pages up and running by Monday.

As for the "link back to the main page" - the C9 logo in the upper left-hand corner of the header graphic is the link. Perhaps I should make it more noticeable.

Again, thank you.

Firstly, I think the graphics especially are fantastic! The Hap? logo is striking too.

I think the navigation bar is unnecessarily tedious tho... its quite tough work (especially if u have a crap mouse) to get it over the rollover arrows as they are quite small...

I personally think that the actual words on the nav bar at the top should be clickable as well... this would make for more user-friendly movement around the site AND this would be more consistent as the EMAIL link at the top is a clickable word not a little rollover button.

Also, in the footer there is the word EMAIL in the graphic on the bottom right. I think it may be a little misleading, I kinda expected it to light up or something on rollover, I thought it was gonna be a mailto link, not that that really matters, I just couldn't work out what it meant/was for.

Dunno if you want typos pointin out or not... after the word MCDONALDS? theres no space or capital letter on next word (on home page)

Hope my comments are the sort of thing you were looking for.
I really like the site tho, good work!

that site is offically bangin! great layout and screen size taken into account. nice work with tables there(must of been hel to get around all that :p). one problem is the no-right click. 1: it doest work, you can view source and just get the location of the images and you can use the left click trick 2: it taints your images a bit by putting big warning messages on your site

My site is officially bangin'! Laughed so hard I about fell outta my chair.........lol - Thanks, whack, that's cool.

brothercake, thanks for the compliment, and dysfunctionGazz I am always eager to hear any feedback - no matter how trivial it might seem :)

whackaxe - I don't have any "no-right-click" scripts on my site. where did you see that at? was it just on a certain page? or on all of them? very odd.....

Thanks to all of you for your great feedback. And I am reworking the navigation menu and redesigning the footer - thanks Gazz :)

no right click was on the home page but it seems to have dissappeared, oh well...

oh and ths may only be me but on the pages other than the home page, the jpgs arent showing up. is that my naff computer or is that a problem with your site?

He stated in his post that they were not showing b/c something happened to them :) Its not your comp.

I am not sure about this but you are selling services and have a .org extension. I thought .org was for non-profit. The site is very well done. The only suggestion I have is move all your left column "boxes" to the right column except for the "Contents" menu. This may affect your layout but it looks good regardless.

Really nice site, its very unique (until somebody sees it and copies it). I noticed one thing...

the shop talk page doent have the body tag with the {margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0; margin-left: 0; margin-right: 0;} which causes it to sit several pixels of of the top and left like the other pages.

Its not that big of a deal but I just thought it was worth mentioning.

Wasn't noting any errors down or anything like, just wanted to say your site looks really really really good. Doesn't hurt my eyes, and yet its eye popping..

Internet Man, "Awesome Site! Where did you find that Killer Layout Dude?"

I came up with the design myself. Thanks for the compliment.

webmarkart, "...the shop talk page doent have the body tag..."

I am fixing that this evening. Thanks for the tip.

codewarrior, "Is the Poster competition thingy still on???????"

Yes. The contest deadline is Septemeber 3, 2002.

Gazz ---- I fixed the menu, and I also fixed the footer graphic. Tell me what you think of my changes, Gazz :)

I appreciate all your feedback. It has been very valuable to me. God bless all of you for your kind help.

Pile of... ;)

Have you tested at high resolution? the left alignment makes it look a little weird at my res of 1280x960. That's a rare resolution so maybe it doesn't matter.

I noticed on some pages you have a zero top/left margin and others you have a non zero which is weird as when a new page loads the whole page kinda shifts left and down 10px.

You seem to be lacking any <body> tags too :p actually no, you have two head tags with a bit of the body tag with a table in between...

Yeah, tell me about it. It's been a constant headache for me ever since I signed up with Homestead. I'm making plans to move the entire site to a different hosting service - one that actually doesn't bloat or screw with my code when I publish the pages.

But that won't be for a while. Maybe at the end of this year or sooner. Thanks for letting me know.
