View Full Version : Looking for a JS

I need a script that when a person clicks on a link, it will open up a new window that will display an image and a link that will close the new window. It is for a jewelry website to show an "enlarged photo" of an item. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome here!

Please don't be confused as this is not a site for making free script requests. We are a community of developers and we will assist you in your journies. If you would like this created for you for a fee, please try the Work Offers forum.

If you would like to develop this yourself with our assistance, I have the following questions:

Do you have 2 pictures? A thumbnail and an enlarged picture? Or is there just the one picture?
Where is this site to be hosted? Is PHP or ASP available?
How many pictures are there? How often will this site be updated? By whom? Have you thought of using a Shopping Cart software?

Initially, I would have said to use PHP for this, but I recently read a post by Mr J who provided the following link:

The idea is to have one page, call it enlarge.html, to show ALL enlarged pictures:

Using the technique found in the above link, you can grab big_diamond.jpg and use it in your code to display that particular image, along with the link to close the window.

This way you don't need to create a new page for each picture that ever gets put on the site. You've only ever got the one page. You just have to update the page with the thumbnails..

A very similar idea is possible using PHP or anyother server-side language.

However, if this site will be frequently updated and by a non-technical person that doesn't want to jump into the code everytime, you can create a database of the inventory with the price information and pictures and whatever else. Using a server-side language (like PHP) you can write code to extract the data from the database and produce a page. As the database grows/shrinks, the page will always be outputted correctly.

Then you can write a nice administration interface to allow the updater to upload pictures and create new items which would then update the database and be reflected on the website.

The server-side language option is somewhat better as if Javascript is disabled on the client's browser, it won't work.

You might also consider researching some shopping cart software, as they may do what you're looking for as well as additional features the Jewellery Store might be looking to implement at somepoint.

Just my $0.02,

Depending on your requirements, as Sadiq said, this may or may not work:
