hi gang
i am creating an web application. the serverside scripting needs to manipulate XML (reading, writing, generating). The client just needs to be able to read to XML and do stuff with it.

i am using Javascript for the client side stuff as i have most experience with it

i need to know what to use for the server side??? javascript of php. my initial impressions are that php would be far easier. your welcome to put me right on that. also i would not need to use lasso.

can someone confirm that php is the way to go for generating my xml

well, since you can't use javascript on the server (unless you're talking about JScript, ASP and IIS; or Serverside Javascript (which is dead and required a specialist Netscape server)), then I think the answer should be pretty clear, don't you.

PHP -> serverside XML generation
JS -> clientside XML manipulation

hope that clears it up for you :D

you can generate XML clientside, but it's much more work than to do it on the server. furthermore, why would you want to if it's just going to sent back to the server anyway.

the nice thing about clientside XML manipulation is that you can use RPCs to update the page without having to refresh it.

now, that really is sweet :cool:
