View Full Version : Need a little help finding the right script(s)

im at the moment building a website for a small custom guitar company owned by a friend of mine.

My friend wants hes customers to be able to go to this site and login to an account that he sets up from some sort of control panel or whatever, he dont want people to be able to register from a form or anything on the site, he wants it to be more private and do it himself - so only hes cutomers gets account acces.

Anyways, the customers should be directed to that specific customers own page when that customer logs in.
Maybe something like a welcome 'name of customer' theres 2 messages waiting for you, click here to read...lol or whatEVER!!

The whole idea with this is that my friend wants whoever of hes customers that logs in to go to hes og hers own page to check for updates on what my friend is making for him or her, with some nice photos and descriptions.
Also it would be nice if it there were to be some way that the customer could easyli write a message to my friend through the customers account gui and as almost mentioned in the same way, recieve messages back - like a formmail or whatnot.

ofcos the whole thing needs to be highly customiseable, since it needs to suit the rest of the design i made.

i been searching hotscripts for a coupple of days, and tryed atleast a dousin different scripts, but i havent been able to find anything that came close to above described...

anyways, i need a reccomendation for what script(s) to use, to get this thing kicking, it has to be a free script since i got no budget for this... im tired of testing worthless pieces of ****code if you catch my drift...

kudoos to whoever succeed to help me

ps, i am a php noob, let there be no doubt :D

I don't think there's a script available to do something like that. You might be able to find a tutorial (or you may need a range of tutorials for the different tasks of your system) that will guide you through some of the steps, but you're going to have to fill in quite a few blanks.

What you're asking for is quite customized, and I doubt there's an easy way out.

You're going to need a database setup in such a way to hold users and hold messages (almost like a webmail type of idea, except you can't send email to anyone, just to your friend), among other things.

Then you're going to need PHP code to interface with it, which would be embedded in your design. It also depends on what your design currently looks like, you may have to change the layout of your code for it look proper in the end.

If you guys have no budget here, you're probably out of luck, unless you start seriously hacking away at PHP and get the hang of it yourself. You're probably going to need to get a professional's help. You may want to post on the Work Offers forum here and explain your situation. You may be able to get someone to do this for free, as long as you're willing to be their reference (if they have no work experience...).

I don't know what else to tell you. Maybe someone else can be of more help.

Good luck,

I agree with sad69 here... While what you are asking for is incredibly common, you will not find many (if any) scripts that do just that. The question is, are you willing to make an attempt yourself, or are you wanting this to be done and ready for you? If you want to have a go yourself you should be able to find some useful resources here and all over the web.

A really simple way of doing this is just creating a html page that only the customer knows about that does not have a link from the main site, and use regular email. Example: customguitars.com/joeblow.htm

After the customer has picked up the product the page is deleted.
