View Full Version : Creating an HTML email

Hi! I'm not really sure if this is the right place to ask but I am interested in creating an HTML email. Is it just as simple as hosting the images on the internet and inserting the code into an email?
If there is more to it than that, can someone point me to a good tutorial?
Thanks in advance! :)

Well it depends on how you want to make the email. Outlook (and express) allow you to edit the source of a html email ...

If you are creating it serverside I suggest you pick the appropriate forum for that. :)

Could you give more explanataions? Do you want people to be able to send emails from your site? Do you want them to be able to have an email addy? It depends on your server. If you are using IIS (and probably coding with ASP) here is a good tutorial about CDONTS: http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33093
If you want people to be able to have their own email adress on your site you'll have to use a third party component like HiveMail (Apache server/PHP). However hosts usually provides very simple scripts that will let you build an HTML form and send the infos via email. It is usually in the cgi-bin folder.

No, I don't want people to be able to send emails from my site. I want to create an email to send to people like companies do all the time. I want to be able to have images in it and be all done in HTML. I don't use outlook express. I don't know if it has to be done serverside thats bascially what I was asking. How is it done?

Well, generally most email applications have an option to edit the source of an email if you designate it to be html usually via a menu option or something ...

Serverside is of course an alternative if you email prorgam doesn't allow you to send html email ... As Jeskel said you can use CDONTS if you have access to ASP or if you can use PHP you can use the built in mail function.

Of course if you don't want to do it serverside and your email application doesn't provide the options for sending html emails (usually if you can recieve them you can send them) you should get one that does..

My mind reading abilities are a little off at the moment, what email program do you use?

Sorry, I use squirrelmail :)

Yes...It's that simple. Make your html email and link to the pics on your server. You cannot send html mail with squirrelmail but you can with Yahoo! by checking "view html coding" while composing.
