Hi gang, I'm new to the forum and have very little programming experience.

I am wondering if website (A) can be coded in such a way that it will update website (B) without actually accessing website (B) through a browser. In other words, the updates are done behind the scenes.

I know little to nothing about programming websites, so your input is greatly appreciated.

Yeah. It can be done with cron jobs, or by writing infinite handlers and treating them as services.
The bigger question is to why. If nobody is there to see it, why change the content? Its easier and more efficient to simply let the content update on demand. If its bulk then you would be better of to automate over off peak hours, but otherwise if you are doing things like fetching the weather there is no reason for it to change until needed.

"Cron jobs" "infinite handlers" ??? that's over my head ...

In a nutshell I have a website that gets updates regularly throughout the day. I have to manually take the information from website (A), log into website (B) click through to a certain page and then paste the information and then press the update button.

I would like to know if this procedure can be simplified (automated) from website (A). Not having any experience in the field of programming websites, I don't know where to begin.

As it is, I spend way too much time transferring information, also, when I get up in the morning there is a huge backlog to be processed. I would like the updates to happen as they come in regardless of what time it is.

Hope this makes sense.

Check out Google Drive/Docs. I retrieved CSV info from my gmail account and displayed it on a few of my websites with the code below:

$handle = fopen("http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?******output=csv", "r");
while (($data = fgetcsv($handle, 1000, ",")) !== FALSE) {

echo "<li><a href=\"$data[0]\" class=\"my_websites\" title=\"$data[1]\">$data[1]</a><br>\n";

I would then update the info through my gmail account. The above code is from a few years back and I no longer use it, so you will have to check out what is current with google and the sort of info you can retrieve from Google Drive/Docs.
