View Full Version : Regarding Facebook

I am hoping someone is able to put me straight on exactly what I need to do. One thing has lead into another, which has now lead me clueless on what I need to do.

If you click this example (https://www.facebook.com/dialog/feed?app_id=123050457758183&link=https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/dialogs/&picture=http://fbrell.com/f8.jpg&name=Facebook%20Dialogs&caption=Reference%20Documentation&%20description=Using%20Dialogs%20to%20interact%20with%20users&redirect_uri=http://www.example.com/response), it'll take you to Facebook. This has been taken from the Facebook Feed Dialog (http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/dialogs/feed/) page. To use this link, you need an app_id, of which, I do not have. The description says for the app_id "Your application's identifier. Required, but automatically specified by most SDKs." so I looked this up.

After looking up the SDK (http://developers.facebook.com/docs/sdks/), I was completely lost and I am now at a dead end on what to do. Eventually, there'll be a lot of these share buttons, log in with Facebook and whatnot and presume this also has to do this the SDK too? I do not have or intend on having an application, just a fan page, of which I would like to link with any shares from any of the sites content, see graphs and whatnot.

What exactly am I meant to be doing, how do I get an SDK/app_id for my website?

Best Regards,

Perhaps you could describe what it is you are trying to accomplish?

I thought I had?...

Basically, the example link I'd like to have all over my website so people can share pages, however, the link requires an app_id which I do not have.

I've looked into things, and through apps you can see statistics of your page shares and whatnot which I'd like to see, instead of the user just liking a page, it adds to the fan page I have on Facebook.

I am not 100% sure how to describe myself... I also want to have 'Log in with Facebook' eventually and might need an app_id too?
