I have a couple of things wrong with my website, (this is my first time publishing a website and its more for personal use than anything else) in IE my javascript will not run I don't know why if I test it on my machine its fine but when it goes through the server it doesn't work. (I am trying to get this to work for all browsers as well) Another thing is that I added another piece to my website and when I test it on my machine it works fine, but when I run it through the server it gives me a 404 error when I go to that url, but I have one that is exactly the same, just a little different and it works fine, so I am confused why one works and the other doesn't. Can someone help me figure this out!

When I first started, I had the same problem with 404 errors. What it was for me, and likely is in your case, is that you tested on a windows box and it is not on a unix box. The reason this can cause problems is that windows is not case sensitive in file names. I would be willing to bet that your link that leads to a 404 has a different capitalization than the file name.

You also said that some script is not running in IE now that it's on a server. Does it work in other browsers? If so, then I have no idea where to point you, but, if not, I bet it's the same problem.

404 means the page cannot be found (file). Make sure the path is right.

Yes my code file path is correct and my JS code is working in Firefox and other browsers but not in IE, also I still need to see if I change the lettering in my filepath name as I do have alot of caps in the file name, so I don't if that is what causing it or not but I think, I will try to change to see if it works.

Do you guys think posting my index file would help, I do know that when I did this portfolio it was in some older versions of HTML, bc thats what the school was teaching, idk if it has issues or not, but I wouldn't think IE would be the problem. Well here is my Code:

The code seems fine. I am thinking that Internet Explorer is the problem. What version of Internet explorer are you using?

04-23-2012, 04:17 AM
good question! IE9 So this is the latest version that I know of!

Ok. I think the problem is IE. Quite a few different things about Website coding do not work in IE, as it is not the best Browser.... I tried the page earlier in Chrome, worked fine, but now that I look at the page in IE, I get " Your browser does not support JavaScript!" where the scripts should be. Maybe switch to a different browser?

Yes I agree, everything else does seem to work fine in other browsers, I was trying to get them to work in IE, bc if I have companies looking at my website as a resume, then they would probably be using IE, so hence the reason for asking I did get my other issues fixed, found out that the page was caching files and had one small tiny error in my code, both other issues are fixed except for browser compatibility. Except for my slideshow, but I never did get my slideshow to work in other browsers (IE was the only browser that it would work in) I may rewrite that entire code to fix it, since I do have examples now, also it only worked in IE on my own computer and never anything or anywhere else.
