Hi,
when I use the new html5 tags, say i want to do the footer tag and in my footer tag is a few divs and when i go to apply a background colour to the footer tag it doesnt show up. I have tried lots of different css.
How would I just apply a colour to the background of the footer tag.

<footer>
<div class="row">
<div id="leftFooter" class="five columns">
<p>footer left</p>
</div><!--end five column centered-->

<div id="rightFooter" class="five columns">
<p>footer right</p>
</div><!--end five column centered-->
</div><!--end row-->
</footer>

When i try and apply background-color:red; it doesnt show up do i need to declare width and float and height as i have done this and still nothing.

You need to declare these elements (header, footer, article, etc.) as block-level elements, they aren’t by default. Try that and see if it helps.
