I'm looking for a coloring book script and ... I'm trying to understand, how does it work: http://www.coloringpageskids.org/online/animals-butterfly,5

It's HTML5, JavaScript or something else?

This is obviously done server side as there is a full page refresh with every click. It could (of course) as well be done using HTML5 canvas element ... even without any page refresh. But that's not the case here.

So, every mouse click position including the color will be sent to the server which in return delivers the new image to the browser

If you are doing this just as a coding exercise, then I suggest Javascript or maybe a Java applet. Trying to do it via PHP, could be done, but why would you want to put the users through a page refresh every time they click?

If you just want a really nice coloring book to use with your own coloring pages, and which you can customise, I suggest you look here...

You can download and try it out for free.

Good luck!

Here are two HTML5 coloring book aps

I created one like this http://www.williammalone.com/articles/html5-canvas-javascript-paint-bucket-tool/ in Flash and was interested in creating this one but was having a hard time figuring out his tutorial.
