View Full Version : description on links upon mouse over image links...

I would like the viewers to be able to see an explanation if they actually place their mouse over the linked image. How could I actually designed it so that, when the mouse hovers over the linked image, an explanation or more info (text) would appeared on the other side of a table? or layer?.

For example, I am placing an image of someone and when someone actually place his mouse over it before he proceeds to click it, a short and brief message of explanation or info comes pop up on lets say table A. If the user moves to the other image, the same would happen, a short, brief info that appears also on table A. Maybe layer A would do, overall I have no idea yet on how to do it.

If this topic falls under CSS or XML, i would like to know. I d very much appreciate to whoever could help me.

<script language="JavaScript">

<!-- start hiding

var isopen=false;
var newwin;
var starttag="<head><title>just a put® your title here</title> </head><body><center>"
var ask="<font color=#000099>yadda...yadda n' morrre just a yaddas®</font>"

function openwin(text)
newwin = window.open("","", "height=182,width=388,scrollbars=no,resizable=no");

function closewin()
if (isopen==true)

// end hiding -->

n' then just a call® it by...
<a href=javascript:void(0) onMouseover="openwin(ask)" onMouseout="closewin()">just a onmouseover® trigger here</a>

this script i just wrote should make a description under the images, when you mouseover an image it should change the description... but... it doesnt work, well, at least its enough for someone to work on and make work...

function imgDetail(imgDescription) {
var descrip_layer;
if(imgDescription=="normal") {imgDescription="<small>[Place your mouse over a photo to see a description]</small>"}
// for NN 4
if(!document.all && document.getElementById){
// for NN 6
descrip_layer = document.getElementById("description");
// for IE
descrip_layer = document.all["description"];

<img src="img1.jpg" onmouseover="return imgDetail('This is the First Image')" onmouseout="imgDetail('normal')" /> <br />
<img src="img21.jpg" onmouseover="imgDetail('This is the Second Image')" onmouseout="imgDetail('normal')" /> <br /><br />

<layer name="description"><small>[Place your mouse over a photo to see a description]</small></layer>

:confused: hopefully someone can sort this out for you.

Thanks justame, I would do something wif it. Moodyblues100, yeah I wanted something like that, almost like that. I really appreciate that u show me what u got there.

Btw, Moodyblues100, i saw ur site, i would suggest colors for the scrollbar, why dont put blue or red wif it? just suggesting.

Redhead, I am trying to apply the script first, had some problems wif it now...will try more. Where do u put that script? head, body?

Justame, ur script gives me quite a freak... it looks like a popup ad....heh heh maybe an April Fool might do well wif a script like dat. I ll play wif ur script and see what i can find.

Anyway, I am now trying to find a site that might show u an example of what i actually wanted.

maybe my way isnt that good... i'm pretty sure i mentioned that it didnt work as is... the body section should be dandy. i excpect someone else's script should be fine if they work.

happy coding :thumbsup:

Graeme Hackston, yes that's exactly whati wanted to do. Thanks. Oh moodyblues, what u recommend was good, i did have some ideas on using such things but,

I am currently trying to build a webpage that would fit for geocities.com so wif an addition of a script like that, it just won't work on geocities.com free web pages..nothing really 'free' this days. Q btw Moodyblues.

Hackston, I am checking that site now.TQ very much.
