View Full Version : SQL Server 2005 + PHP

Hi guys, this is actually my first post, i know how it looks just coming here just to ask this, but hey, ain't that how most of you guys came here in the first place ?

The problem is: i'm creating a website, but it need to read the stock from this SQL Server 2005 Express Database.. and changing it to a Mysql Database is out of the question ..
but i've never dealt with SQL Server Dbases..
can you guys point me at the right direction ? i've been looking for this the past 2 days already ..

If your creating, you won't have any problems. Only if you are porting you may see problems since both languages have proprietary features (LIMIT versus TOP for examples). If I were you, I'd avoid doing direct SQL calls that use proprietary features, and choose abstraction to slide drivers in below if you need that functionality.

And more importantly here (use the PDO_ODBC, I don't think the MSQL is supported any more):

PDO is really the way to go. If you avoid the whole proprietary SQL, than you can swap out drivers for different databases as you see fit, without having to touch any other code.
