Hey all, I'm a 16 year old student that would love to be a web developer one day. I just love to see how the coding i do makes something so nice in the screen right in front of me but today I want to ask you a question...I have been learning HTML for the past 6 months and I think I have a lot of it down pat so now I have to learn CSS on my own unlike when I was learning Photoshop and HTML from a teacher. So do you guys have any methods to use to really grasp CSS? Like any learning tools? I know what CSS is and understand the concept around it. Iv'e been using W3Schools but I need a way to really memorize the code...thanks for the help!

Iv'e been using W3Schools but I need a way to really memorize the code...thanks for the help! Practice.. practice.. that's the only way to "memorise" any code. Try to make some simple layouts, dropdown effects, tabs, form layouts etc by following tutorials like

http://bonrouge.com/~css_menu
http://htmldog.com/articles/suckerfish/dropdowns/
www.alistapart.com/articles/slidingdoors/
www.alistapart.com/articles/prettyaccessibleforms/
etc ;)

To agree with the previous post, the only way you'll memorize code is by actually using it. Try making some websites for like a figurative business, and have a website like tizag or w3schools open so you can refer to them for the syntax. It may take time before you can start doing CSS on your own without having a syntax website opened to help you out, but that's perfectly fine. As long as you're creating, you're learning.

You may find the following site of use.

The advice given already is beyond reproach.

Yeah, it’s like learning a foreign language. You can learn it in school perfectly but if you don’t use it you forget it faster than you can say “网页设计”. :D

Sorry, I should have linked to it: 网页设计 (http://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E7%BD%91%E9%A1%B5%E8%AE%BE%E8%AE%A1)

Click on the language at the bottom left panel if necessary. ;)

I don't agree with this passage. I think!

I honestly don't see why you didn't learn them together. You can't really have one without the other: you can't have colors or layout or any of that in just HTML (well I guess you could but you shouldn't be.) Practice simply is the best way. Don't worry if it's difficult. You'll learn the tricks of the trade fairly quickly.
