View Full Version : YouSendIt Style script? - Sending large files

Hi All,

I am searching for an opensource (or affordable) script to allow our site members the ability to transfer large files to email receipients (much like the service at YouSendIt.com).

Any suggestions?
Thanks :)

E-mail's purpose is primarily as a message transport system, not a file transport system. Small files, fine, but larger files are never going to be reliable. A lot of MTA admins clamp down on unnecessary bloat. You would be better suited creating an upload/download service.

Hi Matt,

Sorry - I dont think my post was very clear. Yup, that is what im after..

1) Member signs in.
2) Uploads the file
3) Nominates the recipients email address(s)
4) Unique URL is sent to recipient & provided to member
+ Various options to include password protection of the file etc.

This looked pretty good: http://www.xigla.com/afilesend/

But it requires windows hosting (ASP).

Popscripts.com have something but I can't work out if the content on that site is legal or not.

I can recall seeing something a while back which may be similar to what you're after. I'll see if I can dig the link out.

Thanks - I thought finding such a script would take me a matter of minutes but actually I am finding it pretty tricky! Those I do find seem to get negative reviews regarding the upload system. Others seem to sell themselves as 'clones' etc and this makes me uncomfortable with regards to their legality.

I thought I would keep posting my progress in case anyone else is looking for such a script.

I have found this:
AlstraSoft SendIt Pro

But in the demo ( http://www.blizsoft.com/file/index.php ) it was not possible to add multiple recipients due to a restriction on character length.
And during my upload test - no status/AJAX window reported the file upoads progress. This would be required for larger files (example a 5gb file).

Within the demo admin ( http://www.blizsoft.com/file/admin/configure.php ), it was not possible to permit files greater than 1gb.

I have sent an email to AlstraSoft to see if these options are available.
