Which version of IE and what did you do to add it? As far as I know not all versions of IE display a favicon on websites, only in the bookmark list (which is what these icons were originally intended for).

Gopi,

Without seeking your source code it is difficult to know what the problem is that you need to solve.

In the meantime this from the <head> of a page on my HTML Tags Guide (http://www.html-tags-guide.com/) website may help:

<link rel="shortcut icon" type="image/vnd.microsoft.icon"
href="http://www.html-tags-guide.com/favicon.ico">

This places the favicon both on the address bar and on the tab in IE8.

On the other hand it may have nothing to do with this <link> tag, and all to do with the fact that I have a favicon.ico icon file in my root directory which is the file that IE looks for.

Michael.
