View Full Version : What is the difference between Alt tag and Title tag ?

I have use both the alt tag and title tag in a clickable image that
is on my site.

This is the code I used:

<!-- // SF-Code Project Management M ##gc87f48yf** // -->
<a href="http://www.support-focus.com/check.php?key=SFM64929"
return false" onfocus="this.blur()" >
<img src="http://www.support-focus.com/image_load.php?id=SFM64929"
alt="Support-Focus Membership SFM64929 Click to Verify - Before you Buy"
title="Support-Focus Membership gc87f48yf Click to Verify - Before you Buy"
border="0" >

So what is the difference between the two tags and does anyone know if Google indexes the tags?

For instance in the alt tag I have a code: SFM64929 will this get indexed?
And in the title tag there is a different code: gc87f48yf will that get indexed?

To see the image that I am talking about you can visit this page:
Project Planning (http://www.expert-world.com/sp/project-management/)

Would appreciate anyone's advice about this.

The alt tag is for the text you would want to be displayed when the image couldn't be loaded. The title tag is just that, the title of the image. And the title is what should be shown in the tooltip if you hover over the image. Some older browsers would display the alt text in the tooltip if there was no title.

Thank you :thumbsup:

And does anyone know whether G indexes any of these when the bot visits the page?

some debate about this..from what i've read at least

suggests that alt is useful for google indexing images.

personally i'd set them regardless as it's good for accessibility

I knew the answer to this but I've forgotten. I think Google looks at alt but not title. Let's see if I can find it.
EDIT: I think met's link might be the one I was thinking of.
