View Full Version : 2nd column liquid???

my proposed design was to have a fixed(banner and navigation) header and footer(copyright and contact details) with the middle section having 3 DIV columns.

the header and footer i'm able to finish. but the middle section is hard to figure out
what i want is the 1st column to be align left with a fixed width, the 2nd column aligned right with fixed width also, and the middle column should be liquid (have variable width depending on the browser window's width) and must be located between the 1st and 3rd column with no spaces or padding in between.

i can't figure out the css style and what to do with the DIV.
please help

Hello doctrin13th,
Check out positioniseverything's 3 column layout - http://www.positioniseverything.net/threecolbglong.html

EXCAVATOR that surely is helpful and what i want, but too complex for a simple home page.
i tried to extract the columns part and worked except for the floating right section which i can't set the top attributes to a certain coordinates. the "top" keyword in the css didn't work for floats i guess.

is there a simpler example?

to be specific, this is what i want:

the header
-100%width 100px height.

below the header is the contents section
-(left division: 100px width and 400px height, yellow bgcolor)
-(right division: 150px width and 400px height, red bgcolor)
-(center section: liquid! 100% width between left and right divisions, 400px height, grey bgcolor)

the footer
-100% width, 50px height
