hello, i have a link to open a PDF document in a new window. this works fine in all PC browsers: you click the link and the PDF just opens up in it's own window... just like i wanted...

in Mac, it asks the user to download the PDF before it opens.

is there a work-around for this???

PDF is a format developed by Adobe, Inc., and hence, it’s not a standard browser implementation because web browsers are only supposed and able to parse plain text files (which includes HTML, JavaScript, and CSS) by default. To open/view any other file format in a web browser the manual installation of external plugins is necessary. This applies to PDF just as it applies to Flash, files in Windows Media format, Java applets and what not.

So, most likely in your windows browsers a plugin to view PDFs directly in the browser window is installed already while it isn’t in Mac OS. The thing is: You can install a PDF plugin for Firefox (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7518), for example, but you can never be sure that other people have done or will do so themselves.

So, to conclude: Never rely on documents being displayed in any browser that are not HTML (as you shouldn’t rely that a Flash object is displayed or JavaScript is executed). And you just can’t do anything about it.

that's kind of what i figured, i just wasn't sure if this was strictly a mac thing or not (because all mac users i ask have the same result, but none of the pc users have experienced it..)
