At the moment your sidebar div is within your content div - so they're never going to line up next to each other.

Both #content and #sidebar should be direct children of #outerDiv.

You should fix the errors in your markup (http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http://test.reef-solutions.com/) as well.

thank you for the reply

<div id="outerDiv">

<div id="regbar">
</div> <!--- regbar --->

<div id="header">
<div id="leaderAD">
</div> <!--- leaderAD --->
</div> <!--- header --->

<div id="content">
<div id="glider">
</div> <!-- glider --->
<div> <!--- content --->

<div id="sidebar">
<div id="giveaway">
</div> <!---- giveaway --->
</div> <!--- sidebar --->

<div id="footer">
</div><!--- footer --->
</div> <!---- outerDiv ---->

this is how i currently have it.

i'm assuming the outerdiv wraps around all of it.

this is how i'm seeing it..
regbar
header
leaderad inside the header div
content
glider inside content div
sidebar
currentgiveaway inside sidebar
footer

is that not how it should be done? please help me understand. i'm pulling out my hair trying to understand.

I think the problem is here:

<div> <!--- content --->

That should be a </div>
