View Full Version : How to creae a "document" based on selected items?

I am not too sure if this is the right place to post this questions...please feel free to redirect if not.

Here is what I have:

A VERY long Word document that contains different "technical related processes" For example (1) how to upgrade memory (2) replacing power supply (3) replacing a bad hard drive.....etc. There is a table of content so if you need to send a document to someone explaining how to do items (1) & (3) you would find the section number in the table of content, go to that section and cut and paste those two sections into a separate (boiler plate) already existing Word document. Than we have to save it as a PDF so the person we send it to cannot edit it.

Right now the table of content has 80+ "processes" to chose from and as you can imagine the document itself is pages and pages long.

What I would like to do:

Create a tool, form processor, etc that would allow you to "pick" the items from a list, select "process" and have the boiler plate document populated with the process instructions that were selected.

I know this is not a novel idea but I am looking for suggestions on the easiest (quickest) way to accomplish this by someone with a good understanding of *TML, CSS, some PHP, etc but not a strong coder.

Any suggestions, examples, scripts, etc would be a GREAT help!!

Please feel free to email me directly as well asI can check that more frequently.

Thanks in advance

Well, you could first split it up manually, and save each section in a separate file. Then you can build a list with checkboxes in your page, so people can check off which they want. When they process it, pull the info from each of the checked box's corresponding file and print it to the document.

[ ] - Replace memory (ram.txt)
[ ] - Something (something.txt)
[ ] - Something else (else.txt)

If the user checked ram and something, then print those files (with appropiate paragraphing in between) to the document.

Please let me know if i misunderstood your problem.
