View Full Version : sub nav not displaying in IE

Jul 6th, 2009, 10:28 PM
I'm trying to get my navigation to work, but I can't get it to work in IE. Works great in all other browsers.

Look at this in firefox, chrome, safari:

When you mouseover "resources" or "about us", a sub navigation bar appears. But not in IE 7 or 8.

Does anyone have suggestions?

Um.. there may be an answer even for your current setup, though I'd recommend a slight change in your markup structure and the way you are adding your drop downs

Since those sub menu item is to be displayed under the list items in the main menu set, a properly nested <ul>-<li>-<ul> is the best fit, which should display your menu correctly even in the naked CSS (http://naked.dustindiaz.com/). Take a look at http://htmldog.com/articles/suckerfish/dropdowns/

Further, relying completely on javascript is not a good idea to make the drop downs, since users with no javascript support in their browser won't be able to see them. The above tutorial follows a CSS based one instead.

Now, if you have such a setup like http://www.htmldog.com/articles/suckerfish/dropdowns/example/bones1.html, you could may easily align the sub menu items horizontally by setting a proper width to the sub <ul> and floats to the sub list items.

PS: IE6 still needs a javascript support for the dropdown part.

Grr, I don't want to set up another menu. I would rather work with what I have, but....

thanks, I will take another stab at it unless anyone else has a quick remedy!
