View Full Version : Aspire T320 Corrupted BIOS

I'm trying to salvage this little fu**er... Often freezing during boot sequence (before even starting the OS). It also freezes when in the OS (after it boots). I opted to a fresh install of XP, and I still get freezes (when in XP and sometimes during boot).

By freezes I mean the cursor don't move, no HDD lights, pressing caps lock don't light the keyboard LED.

With all these freezes I was "this is probably something hardware" since no new hardware has been added in years. I the opted to update the BIOS.

Guess what, during the BIOS flash write sequence, the computer freezes again! After like 5 mins of being stuck at the same write cluster I reboot and now the PC is (obviously) dead. All kind of non stop beeps, no screen nothing... First time I see a corrupted BIOS. Is there a way to put back the factory BIOS (jumper or something)? I guess not but asking just in case...

This is a $hitty Aspire T320.

It probably wasn't the bios to begin with. When you said it froze during the install of windows, you mean it started loading the files on the text only install part or it actually got to the gui part of the install? If it got to the gui part, when did it freeze? At 34 minutes?

You might be able to reset the bios but it involves opening the case to the computer. If you aren't familiar with the hardware of the pc I wouldn't do this but since you really have no other choice...

Never froze during Windows installation. Always froze during the boot sequence (before even loading Windows) or when in Windows itself (installing SP, or just when on the desktop doing nothing).

I'm familiar with opening PCs, I "build" computers since more than 10 years and it's the first time I corrupt a BIOS by updating it (and I flashed quite some).
