View Full Version : Ideas for enhancing a "suggest a song" page

I'm getting married next year :)

One of the things we want to do is, instead of having a DJ or band, ask all the guests to suggest three songs. We'll then choose the ones we like and make a playlist out of them and run the whole night off iTunes on my laptop

I'm going to be putting together a website, and I want to make this suggest-a-song form a part of it. But it's going to be a bit boring: a couple of fields for song and artist name, and that's it (we don't want to let people see the suggestions list in advance).

I'm wondering what I can do to spice this page up a bit. I can stick some jQuery-style fadey-slidey goodness on it, but even then, that's nothing to write home about. I want something that my mates will play with and go "ooh, that's cool".

Like, say, something that looks up the song against a database of genres and draws a nice pie chart illustrating the fact that the wedding disco is going to be 37% industrial techno and 14% songs including the word "fish". Or something like that.

Any ideas from the CodingForums crew? I can't offer any invites, I'm afraid, but I promise to post the final playlist ;)

I am pretty sure there is an XML feed from iTunes you could use to have an auto populate, because if there are people like me who perhaps only know the artist, or part of the song name might want a link to a clip of it to hear? I would be impressed with that, and I'm a developer heehe!

Also the design would probably give more wow-factor maybe spend 10$ on a design, there are literally 1000's on the internet for around $10-$50 (about 7-35) which I am quite sure is nothing compared to your wedding bill!

Hope that helps!

It might be cool to let the visitor know how many other people already suggested their choices. Maybe a top ten list of most suggested music.
