Hi everyone,
Iam a beginner in using database in web but I have a little experience in sql pls
Now I need to build a site that help client to insure about postal address by determine its location in the map and print it in an envelop .

I have tow options about the database
Either link the database with the database of post organization ( this will depend on agreement of them) .This means we will link to remote server , Is there a need to local server ? Must the database be developed with the same language used in their DB?

OR we will build one and fill it with the post organization data .In this situation , What is the suitable features for the server?

Also what is the suitable language for designing DB if it has longitude and latitude for each address ( mysql of postgreSQL ) or any other if I suggest to build the site with PHP (or if you suggest another)

Thanx for all and sorry to bother..

Must the database be developed with the same language used in their DB?I am sorry but this is a really dumb question.

Most people use local servers but I have not. I like to see the errors live and know that I goofed.

Welcome, and I prefer to use PHP and MySQL together. I use a local server when I program some things, it helps make faster development and does it in a secure location.

http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html Here is an easy installation that will get you running quickly.

Databases themselves are fairly similar in most regards. SQL is the standard language for working with DB, and each DB system has unique features and whatnot, but in the basic forms they function pretty much the same. MySQL is popular because it is free and works well with PHP. I don't see that it matters which DB system you use though, your data is not that specialized. It starts to matter when you are indexing a lot of data, but thats advanced stuff that I don't know.

thanx for answer but I ask if there is a link with the server of post , my database will take views of original database and storing it where? in stand alone server ( because of huge database ) or in my computer ( as local ) of course it will depend on the amount of information but the question if I have view or if I use original database directly? what is the differece?

thanx sir,
Ok is there a difference if I develop my database with access and the linked one in SQL?

Well what? I'm sorry I don't quite get it.

SQL is the language used to manipulate a DB, it itself is not a DB.

Access and MySQL are different systems, and while I don't use Access myself, it is really a database on your local computer, where MySQL is for a server. I know Access can be used for websites and stuff, but it requires more expertise in .net and stuff I believe. Maybe someone else can chime in on that one.

However I would not develop in one database and then use another one. I would develop using the same database system that you will eventually use. Ergo, using the system in the link would be a local server for you to develop and test a database before putting on your website server (assuming it runs MySQL and PHP).
