View Full Version : Add bookmarks from other pages to my site?

I'm trying to create a new website at the moment, and as a key part of it I want users to be able to add pages from other sites as a bookmark to their profile page on my site.

For example, the way if you read an article on BBC, you can click to add it to your Facebook page.

Obviously I'm not going to be able to put buttons on other people's websites in that way, but I've seen some sites where you bookmark a link, and then when you are on the page you want to save you click that link in your bookmarks and it will automatically add that page to your profile.

I'm not sure if I've explained what I want to do very well there... forgive me, it's probably simple but it's been a while since I've done any coding and I'm trying to brush up ;)

If someone could let me know where I could find coding for this, or a tutorial to write this sort of code, I would be very grateful.

Cheers

You can't do this with css, but you can with javascript.

Take a look at that. You can change the link on the script to your preference.

Sorry, I don't think that is what I was after.

What you've shown me there is just how to put a link to bookmark my site isn't it?

I need to know how to be able to put a link on someone's bookmarks toolbar, so if they click that when they are on another site, it will save that page onto their profile on my site (like with Delicious for example), like social bookmarking stuff.

If it's not done in CSS (probably is in Java I guess) then please move this to the appropriate forum :)

I didn't think you meant that, but was waiting for a reply. Would this be closer:

Social Bookmarking Strategies- Get your sites seen! (http://www.scribd.com/doc/39065/Social-Bookmarking-Strategies-Get-your-sites-seen)

They are called Social Booking Marking Scripts.

I think that's closer to it, but still don't think it is what I was after.

Basically, in the scenario mentioned, I basically want to be Delicious (i.e. you click my button to bookmark this site onto your profile on my site)

The best comparison I can find is the website http://www.nomorenotebooks.com
On there you save their bookmarking link to your toolbar, and when you are on another site (eg Amazon), you click the nomorenotebooks bookmark to add that Amazon page to your account on NMNB. That's what I'm trying to find out how to code, the little bookmarklet that will sit on your toolbar and let you add your bookmarks to your account on my site.

Anyone with other ideas?
