View Full Version : Best way to put banners into a site??

ok not sure how to go about this but what is the best possible way to make a site but also make room for banners. Should each banner (160x600, etc) be put in its own table down the left lets say. Main content (800px) down the center) and maybe a 100px banner to the right.

The way I imagine it is to have 3 tables all set at those widths and I can keep expanding underneath?

I ask because as main content expands (in the middle) I did not want it to push down the left and right banners.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, thanks so much!

Let me be the first to say welcome.

Let me be the first to say tables for layout is not good. Instead, use <div> tags. A source for the layout would be http://bonrouge.com/3c-hf-fluid.php

thank you for the welcome :) Ohh so tables are no good? So using that code it will be the proper way to accomplish the layout I had in mind?

Check out some examples of designs, which will allow you to insert the ads where you feel best appropriate. Personally I think that ads are best when they are limited and not overly bearing. So I would not put multiple banners on a page either. It really depends on the design, so do you have a link for us to see what you are thinking?

Tables are for tabular data, not for layout. HTML used to be used to give your content style, but CSS is designed to do that. HTML is only to give your content meaning. So yes, using one of these basic pages as a starter is a much better idea and will produce a better quality page, code wise at least.

i do not have a link but I can just picture it in my head. just like left and right side are banners (can add on top of each other if needed or just leave singles) middle column is all text and can expand as long as it needs too without the left and right banners following its expansions. I think the codes both of you supplied should do it. I will open up dreamweaver and experiment. Thank you both so much! :)
