Best drag and drop library I've found can be downloaded HERE (http://www.walterzorn.com/dragdrop/dragdrop_e.htm). There's detailed documentation - and more importantly for your application there's a function to determine what object your icon's have been dropped onto.

As for method: I'd set the mail icons to drag-able, and then in the wz_dragdrop script simply code the on-drop function to pass the icon that was dragged and the box it was dropped into to another function that parses the move.

If you do need any help, I do freelance javascript development and I'm sure we can work something out (I've also had a lot of experience with Walter Zorn's drag-drop script - feel free to PM/e-mail me ;) )

there is a great JS library out there called extjs. it takes some time to learn but if you know javascript should be pretty easy to pick up. also there examples are great. go to http://extjs.com/deploy/dev/examples/samples.html and scroll down to trees. they have amazing drag and drop I have used. this library takes some time though to learn just great stuff for the future if you have time, also www.extjs.com is the main page.

Thanks for your reply. But i still need the help in depth. Let me explain the problem clearly now. I have a web page with two frames, One frame has the folder such as INBOX,Drafts, Sent items and some custom folders. The other frame has the mails in a tabular form. I need to categorize the mails under the appropriate folders using drag and drop functionality. This has to be done using Html and java script. As am new to javascript, please provide me the clear picture of the solution. Thanks in advance.

I know this is an old thread, but it shows up near the top for searches on drag and drop across browser frames.
Since I have a solution, I hope you don't mind me reviving an old thread.

I had the same problem of trying to drag and drop page elements from one frame to another, but didn't find anything that did this in javascript.
So, I build a library named Frame Glider for this purpose.
The post with demos is at http://www.ankur.com/blog/30/javascript/frame-glider-javascript-library/
Links to detailed documentation is included in that post.
