I don't know why I got this unusual image transparency in ie 6/7...

This is how it looks on FF.

hmmm, it might be an IE7/6 bug that messes with the ping, maybe adding a background color similiar to the image and see what happens!!

If those are all separate images then yes IE is getting the gamma and color corrections incorrect. You may have to serve a different image to IE.

Apart from the size, I can't see any difference between the two.
What am I missing?

In the second one there is a slight discoloration in the middle of the image where it says NVC compared to the outsides of the image.
