Can anyone recommend a good tutorial online (for a novice :p ) to create a good text banner for my website using Photoshop CS2?

I have created one as you can see in the URL below, but as it needs to be a transparent gif it has came out pretty poor! :(

Any help is good :thumbsup:

well the logo doesnt look that bad, it's just the edges cause it's a gif. it doesnt have to be transparent though. you can slice the logo and the background gradient as one peice and save it out as a jpg. no need for trasparency ;)

do you have any idea how to do this in PS CS2? That is the version of PS that I am using, I have tried numerous tuts to try and create a decent looking banner, ut ATM i've got: http://www.ayrshireminis.com/

My background image for that page, and throughout my site is - http://www.ayrshireminis.com/mini/images/bg.gif - I can't see an option when creating a new image to specify a background from an image? Is this possible?

This would be great, if it saves me using a GIF and it doesn't have to be transparent?

I dont think i follow but try this. open your logo file and the background file. make a nw layer under your logo and drag the background into that file and new layer. then scale it horizontally so it strecthes all the way across your logo file. it looks like your going to have to move the bg up some and save it out and see if it lines up. it will take a little nudging to make it line up correctly though. if that loses you, send me the file and I'll layer it for you.

thanks for this help, I was trying to send you the PSD by email - tried a couple of addresses, don't think I had any luck though. I've been trying to do this for the last hour, are you able to try it? What is your correct email?

cheers for helping me out with this Alan, i've got it up to the site now (after longer than I expectd though - I saved the header script with EditPlus and it crashed, and for some reason it decided to delete the header.php script before saving it???? ---- i had no backup!!!)

But, if you take a look at the page in FF and then IE you will see a difference: http://www.ayrshireminis.com/mini/en/contact.php

It's absolutely bang on the button (as usual) with FF, but IE 7 doesn't seem to match up the gradient with the background? Anyideas as to why that would be?

it appears its the hml, body padding/margin

html, body {
padding: 0;
margin: 0;

try adding that at the start of your css and see if it slides up.

actually thats what it is. FF and IE have differen tefaults. doing this will cause FF to be off as well. you'll need to nudge the gradient down some in the psd to make it match up.
