View Full Version : Expanding Box Problem

Hi Guys,

I have a page that seems to render fine in Firefox, but looks awry when I view it in IE. After some research, I believe it is the IE box model bug at work.

As I understand it, the key to correcting the problem lay in modifying my CSS. I havenít done any coding since 2001 however, and am greatly in need of some assistance to:

1. Get the right column back in alignment with the left menu

URL of problem page (this pretty much affects every other page on my site when viewed in IE as well):

Please let me know if I can provide any extra info that might help.

Hello Lanbox 78,
make your CSS look like this:

margin: 0 0 0 145px;
border-left:1px solid #ffffff;

You may need to play with that left margin a little.

Thanks again, Excavator. I've been playing around with the CSS using your example, and although I haven't solved the issue yet, I have made some progress.

I was wondering, why is it that my container is centered in the middle of the page when using FF, and not IE?

Hello again Lanbox78,
You've reached the point where you really need to have valid code. Check what the validator has to say about your page (http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fcervantes.webng.com%2Fsims.html) as well as the suggestion about validating in my sig below.

In answer to your question, I imagine a valid DocType would make your site center... I didn't mess around with it though.

I'm sorry but two DTDs? What on earth?

And valign="left"? Even if it were valid code, how can you vertically align something to the left? =S.
