You forgot to specify a page background color. Looks weird with my other-than-default-white browser background color.

Also this

<p id="linkHeadings">
. <a class="heading" href="http://tomorrowsfunction.com/about">about</a>
. <a class="heading" href="http://tomorrowsfunction.com/resume">resume</a>
. <a class="heading" href="mailto:aaron@tomorrowsfunction.com">contact</a>
. <a class="heading" href="http://tomorrowsfunction.com/journal">journal</a> .

…is not actually a paragraph, is it?
Do some reading on semantic code (http://brainstormsandraves.com/articles/semantics/structure/) and then change the list of links to this:

<ul id="linkHeadings">
<li>. <a class="heading" href="http://tomorrowsfunction.com/about">about</a></li>
<li>. <a class="heading" href="http://tomorrowsfunction.com/resume">resume</a></li>
<li>. <a class="heading" href="mailto:aaron@tomorrowsfunction.com">contact</a></li>
<li>. <a class="heading" href="http://tomorrowsfunction.com/journal">journal</a> .</li>

Stephan, I'll get on that background color once I get a better feeling for what overall color scheme I should go with.

ow my eyes! The 'thing' is very cool but ow, it hurts.Thanks...no, really. It's been getting reactions like this a lot but I've had a hard time teasing it out of people what doesn't look right. I'm considering a few things: different dimensions, another color scheme, different spacing, rounded edges. What do you think would help?

maybe a midtone background colour would help - I think the biggest problem is the really harsh contrast between the squares and the background. In fact, I just tried and IMO it looks great on black.

Hey I wanted to see what you guys thought of my site's splash page... Tell me if it makes the site look promising... Thanks *seriously anything, other than (WHERE IS THE REST OF THE SITE????) unless its like "I WANNA SEE IT WHERE IS THE REST OF THE SITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
oh sorry forgot to give the link

You're probably planning on this anyway, but once you nail down the design on your main page, theme your blog to match.

Also, use a contact form, not a mailto link. Mailto links are annoying (and spammers can get your email address).

I think that header would not be so painful if it wasn't rasterized like that. Try a black background. It's the white grid lines that are killing.

What everyone else says (remove the white grid lines), plus you should show your resume on your resume page (not just a link to a Word file).

p.s. You shouldn't have a link to a Journal if there are no meaningful entries in it.
