I am almost finished beta 2 of my forum(which works!) I'd like to know if would you find it a pain to have to download 2 files?

Like instead of having to download the forum and open up the config file after unzipping it you could just download the zip file which would contain all the files but the config file which you will have to fill out a form to get. The form would configure the config file for you and then let you download it.
Thus no chance of making a mistake.

just security and distrust are going to get in your way there.

Imagine I had a site somewhere and asked you to use a form there to input sensitive information about your own site such as db password, username, file system paths, etc - would you post your sensitive details on a site you didn't own that wasn't https?

If you have already coded a config generating file - perhaps put that in the zip (name it start_here.php or somesuch) and they can execute it once uploaded on their server.

Íkii - formerly pootergeist

The ghost in the machine! :)

Um yeah, I didn't think about that at all.
Possibly I will do as you have said but since the problem is file writing permissions I will make it in Javascript so it is client side and they can copy and paste the code into the config file.

Thanks! :D
