I posted a similar question in the php forum. As a noob I could use a little hand holding and better error checking in the form of an IDE.

What do you guys use for your IDE and why?

Aptana:
Free + Open Source
Eclipse based for nice user interface, plugins, and familiarity
Syntax highliting
intellisense type thing
tells you if functions work or do not work in different browsers
anything you would like. and it automatically gives you suggestions
and if you type <div> it will add </div> automatically!
